Dynamic DUO: GE Lamps Offer Maui Restaurant the Flexibility to Choose Between Multiple Lighting Designs

CLEVELAND, Ohio — (NYSE: GE)  Located on the beautiful island of Maui, DUO Restaurant at the Four Seasons Resort enhances the guest experience by bringing paradise to life while reinforcing the property's image of elegance. Designers Claudio Ramos and Hiram Banks were challenged with creating a design that could animate DUO's day and night environments while still complying with Hawaii's stringent energy codes. The team recognized DUO's need for flexibility and chose lamps from GE Appliances & Lighting. The lighting fixtures, unobtrusively integrated within the tropical design, are durable enough to withstand the high humidity and salt air conditions.

Serving tables and buffet tables sparkle under pools of light from GE Precise™ IR 37-watt MR16 lamps in regressed fixtures with soft-focus lenses and honeycomb louvers that reduce glare. Dimmable 3000 K white LEDs highlight the dish compartments and enhance exquisite, dual-color mother-of-pearl detailing.

The wine bar features the same lighting approach as the buffet tables. Blue, blown-glass pendants with GE T10 40-watt incandescent lamps provide contrast with the warm environment.

The dimming preset control system provides four scenes for cleaning, daytime, evening and late-night activities. This system saves energy, increases halogen lamp life, and simplifies day-to-day operations.

"GE's lighting solution offers DUO a great deal of flexibility," explains Mary Beth Gotti, manager of the GE Lighting & Electrical Institute. "The staff has the ability to completely change the interior atmosphere at the touch of a switch, which allows the restaurant to seamlessly shift to whatever environment is most appropriate at a given time."

This lighting project is among several recognized during the 2007 GE Edison Awards held in May 2008.
